Inauguration of Barack Obama, One-Year Anniversary

I'm excited to announce my upcoming intensive workshops at The International Center of Photography in New York City called The Woman Photojournalist, on January 30& 31 and February 6 & 7: http://www.icp.org/atf/cf/%7BA0B4EE7B-5A90-46AB-AF37-7115A2D48F94%7D/W10_PROGRAM_GUIDE.PDF

Now for some photographs!

One year ago today, Barack Obama was inaugurated as 44th president of the United States. I knew that nearly everybody present, not only professional photographers but grandparents and kids would be taking digital photographs that day, so I decided to work with black & white film.

I wanted to be there to witness a great moment in history, as I have so often in other people's countries, and to photograph it in what had become my town, Washington DC.  So I wandered around the streets of DC photographing ordinary people on an extraordinary day. Here are a few pictures from that day one year ago:

Nice information, many thanks to the author. It is incomprehensible to me now, but in general, the usefulness and significance is overwhelming. Thanks again and good luck!

About This Blog

Alexandra Avakian
As a young photojournalist Alexandra Avakian was fascinated with revolution and the fight for freedom—even dreaming, many times, that she worked in a strife-torn city. She has braved bullets and hostility to photograph stories of searing conflict and bring them to the world. Going far beyond the brief news reports that most of us see, Avakian shares a richer, wider view of the Muslim world through her extraordinary storytelling and photographs—all beautifully showcased in Windows of the Soul, and highlighted here in this blog.
