Winter Hotel Specials That Won't Leave You Out In The Cold

| Comments (4)
Looking for a winter getaway that still leaves you with some cash for holiday shopping? Some hotels are offering special winter rates to encourage travel during the off-season. Most of these offers aren't available during holidays, but they offer a great option for a winter vacation. (None of the following rates include taxes)

RoomTwinBig.jpgMaswik Lodges, Grand Canyon National Park: from $82 per night

"If you think winter is a weird time to visit the Grand Canyon, think again. The snow-dusted scenery is stunning, the crowds thinner, the hiking can be great (absent a snowstorm) and some lodge prices are lower," writes Jane Engle in an article from the LA Times. Taking in the beauty of the Grand Canyon without fighting off throngs of tourists sounds like a pretty good deal to me. Xanterra Parks and Resorts has made it even sweeter by offering rooms in their Maswik South Lodge for $82 a night and in their Maswik North Lodge for $105 a night.

This deal isn't advertised on their website, but if you make an online reservation during the qualifying dates (November 29 through March 4, except for December 19 through January 2 and February 12 through 14) the discounted rates will automatically be applied.

Sonoma Hotel, Sonoma, CA: from $99 per night

The Sonoma Hotel, a 19th-century hotel located in the heart of the Sonoma Wine Country, is offering a $99 per night special for rooms booked Sunday through Thursday between now and March 2009.  These rooms normally run between $110-$170 a night.  A "Superior" room can also be reserved at the reduced price of $125 (normally $165-$190).

The Hotel offers complimentary wine every evening, not that you'll need it after a day of tastings at the local wineries. This "bed and breakfast style inn" is located an hour north of San Francisco on the Sonoma Square near a variety of local artisan shops.
The Centrella Inn, Monterey Peninsula, CA: from $99 per night

Garden_2.jpgThis bed and breakfast located on the Monterey Peninsula in California is offering a $99 per night special for their Victorian style rooms between November 2009 and February 2010 (excluding select holiday and special events).

The Inn, located near Pebble Beach, Cannery Row, and Monterey Wine Country, offers a full buffet breakfast every morning, afternoon tea and hors d'oeuvres, and complimentary freshly baked cookies all day - I don't even get that when I visit my parents!

Yellowstone National Park: from $134 per person per night

Calling all frugal snow bunnies: Yellowstone is offering a variety of winter specials for any size pocketbook. The most affordable, the Frosty Fun at Mammoth special, includes daily breakfasts, one welcome gift per person, one-hour hot tub use per room, unlimited ice skate rental and ice skating, and one card for a 10% discount at the gift shop, tours, rentals, or meals. This package is available from January 3 - March 6, 2010 and is $134 per person per night.

The Nordic Heaven special ($185 per person per night) also includes one ski rental per person per day and unlimited ski shuttles.  Both of these specials require a minimum stay of two nights.

The Getaway packages must be booked by phone. Call toll-free 866-GEYSERLAND (866-439-7375) or 307.344.7311 to make reservations.

The Mandala Hotel, Berlin Germany

Want to head abroad this winter?  The Mandala Hotel in Berlin is offering a free room upgrade at the lowest available rate for guests who visit between November 5, 2009 and February 28, 2010.  The special also includes a buffet breakfast, free use of their ONO Spa, very late (4 pm) check-out on Sundays, and the Berlin Welcome Card that "gives you great discounts all over Berlin".  This posh and modern hotel exemplifies hip, German design and is located in Berlin's chic Potsdamer Platz district.

One thing to note: although this special is advertised on the Hotel's website, the reduced rate does not appear during online booking. I would recommend calling the Hotel to book this package.

Whether planning a week or a weekend away, take advantage of travel discounts during the winter season.
