  • Going green? How about going yellow? A team of researchers has discovered how to turn banana skins into a sustainable fuel source.

  • This summer D.C. is about to get even more crowded with the release and expected popularity of Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian. The Smithsonian is giving people a chance to win a sleepover in the museums, as well as offer visitors a chance to find artifacts featured in the film.

  • The best place to partake in illegal activity? The national parks, apparently. According to NPR, marijuana cultivation has been found in more than six national parks on the West Coast, including North Cascades and Yosemite National Parks.

  • Heading to state parks instead? Think again. Many state parks and historic sites have reduced hours and increased fees, all due to the economic downturn (shocked?). Make sure you call ahead or check the park's website before heading out.

  • D.C. visitors shouldn't miss the annual Dragon Boat Festival, happening this weekend at the Georgetown Waterfront Park.
