  • Motorola is turning the plastic-cup-and-string telephone into reality. The mass-market Motorola Renew is partially made from recycled water bottles and claims to have no carbon footprint.

  • April is National Poetry Month, and Poets.org has a great map that highlights poets and poetry events across the U.S.

  • Turning back the clock could lead to a healthier planet. A U.K. study found that the "slim, trim days of the 1970s"--when people ate less and weighed less--resulted in fewer greenhouse gas emissions.

  • The Olympics aren't just for professionals anymore. The World Masters Games in Sydney (which start October 10) allow all athletes--no matter their ability--to compete. To be eligible athletes simply must meet the minimum age requirement for their chosen sport.

  • It's Bear vs. Ferrell. Actor Will Ferrell recently joined Bear Grylls in Sweden to tape an episode of Man vs. Wild. The episode is scheduled to air in June.
