It has been a while since I last left town, but this weekend has me moving a bit around the country. So since I've loved having you steer me around this summer, I'm again taking suggestions on where I should visit while I'm on the road. I'm traveling to Minneapolis for a wedding on Friday, and I'm looking forward to following a few of Andrew Nelson's tips for the Twin Cities on Saturday. What other Minnesota highlights should make it on my list?
Come Sunday, I'll be heading to Santa Barbara, California for a conference. Our past articles have called the area sensuous and akin to the American Riviera, but I'm eager to hear your recommendations on what I shouldn't miss.

We stayed at the Canary Hotel in SB in August. It was excellent.
It's 10 miles south of SB, but The Spot is the BEST little burger shack I've ever been to. It's in Carpinteria, and just up the street from Carp State Beach. You must go!!

I highly recommend Brit's Pub on the Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis...you can do the Mary Tyler walk while you're down there too. The Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis (Lake and Hennepin) is also quite nice...very artsy. You can stop in for some BBQ and Blues at Famous Dave's BBQ in Calhoun Square. And, just a little south of there, you can take a walk, or ride a bike, around the lakes. It's all very scenic and nice.
The last spot I would recommend, which is also quite nice and trendy, is the St. Anthony Main area on the north side of the Mississippi River by downtown Minneapolis. It's a nice drink stopping spot.
If you like Mexican food, don't miss Santa Barbara's La Super-Rica taqueria. It is one of the best tacos shops in southern California. It can have a long line at peak times but it is worth the wait.
