Why You 'Can't Agree'

| | Comments (11)
A few of you have written to say that during installation of The Complete National Geographic, selecting the button  that indicates you agree to the EULA (End User Licensing Agreement) does not work or freezes your system. Here's what you may have experienced:

1) You scroll to the bottom of the EULA while reading it carefully. (You do read it, right?)
2) You select "Agree" or "Okay" and the UI (User Interface) doesn't respond.
3) You select "Agree" or "Okay" again and the UI still doesn't respond.
4) You try once more and the UI freezes.

Don't feel bad.  It is not you.  It is a known UI issue where the "Agree" button does not change states after it's been selected by the user.  This may be because you didn't scroll to the bottom of the of the EULA, indicating that you actually read it.

Solution:  Please be sure to scroll to the bottom of the EULA by using the Up and Down arrows on its side scrollbar.  Then press "Agree".   The agreement should then be accepted.

In some cases because the UI doesn't communicate that a user agrees, the user continues to click "Agree" quickly or several times in a row.  This can cause the application to freeze.

If this happens, just close the application and re-start it.   The application should load, bypassing the EULA acceptance screen.

I agree and am very disappointed.

Please rush a response--I purchased two complete copies and my nephew has been expecting to use the material as well as the fact that I have edited several of them and am quoted in your July 1969 article on the "Railroad Worm."

Anxiously,

TAH, Ph.D.

READ THIS CAREFULLY!
I purchased a VISTA computer and your program "The Complete National Geographic - Every Issue Since 1888" will not get by the "End User Agreement" even though I have followed your instructions quite well as listed above.
Note: I previously loaded this program on my XP computer and finally got past it without activating the "End User Agreement" and the program runs.
I plan on retiring my XP computer, but I cannot until your program loads perfectly on my VISTA computer.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

I have tried both suggestions and can not get pass the EULA. Do you have another suggestion?

I don't know where the URL is.

Having just received the Complete National Geographic on DVD, I too am greatly disappointed that it will not allow me to run the program, even after doing everything as you instructed, I am still not able to get beyond the "accept" portion. I've scrolled through and read the entire agreement and only clicked on "accept" once. Then waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and nothing happened. If I hit "do not accept", everything just disappears and I can go on and run other programs. As might be expected, I am not all that happy with a program that I cannot even run.

Your software cannot even pass the Agree portion of the initialization process, and the blend referrals above are sad as to function and specific. Either sell what will work, or don't sell that what you do not and cannot understand. I have tried enough on Mac and W7, and in all cases, you loose. Get a game and start to earn what we pay you.

Everyone, we will update this entry to make certain to add the following. You must scroll the scroll bar completely to the bottom of the text box. We suggest that you make certain that the bar is all the way down by then clicking on the scroll tab a few times, too. Just for good measure, scroll it up and down an additional time. Then click the 'I agree' button just once.

Installation should start immediately.

If this still does not work, and you haven't done so already, please use the 'Contact the CNG Support Team' link in the left side bar and we will help you.

I have version 1.14, and after having some difficulty installing the CNG program from the disk, I followed the directions and deleted the program through the Add/Delete function of the control panel and the temporary folder in the home folder. I then downloaded the program from the internet. After installation, when the End User License Agreement appeared, their was no option to agree. The Disagree button worked, but the Agree button appeared to be "ghosted" (ie. grey, not the same color as the Disagree button.) With the Agree button inoperable, I could not start the application. This appears to be a different problem than discussed in the faqs

Please help!
Thanks,
Alan Rahm

I have tried the solution but even after re-starting the application, I am still asked to accept the EULA and it still freezes. I have spent six hours trying to download this disc (received this as a x-mas present) but have no success.
