The students of Hollywood High School were treated to a screening of the social documentary Super Amigos during the festival's LA run. The students, between the ages of 16-18, were enraptured by the film from start to finish as the adventures of the "Super Amigos" revealed themselves on the silver screen. Ar07_0312_2
According to one of the teachers, Barbara Gordon, this behaviour was a rare exhibition for the group. After the film, Superbarrio engaged the students in a spirited dialogue about the social causes featured in the film. It was striking just how in touch the students were with the human rights issues afflicting this continents megalopolis'. Several implored the Mexican "luchador" to come to their city to help champion their respective causes.

Super Amigos!!

Ar07_0228

Don't look now, but there have been numerous reports of Superbarrios sightings in the vicinity of screenings for the film Super Amigos (Arturo Perez Torres). Indeed "Super" can be appropriately applied to the reception the film received on this night! Amid 2 rapturous standing ovations and chants of social pride from the well attended audience, Superbarrio made a triumphant appearance for an engaging Q&A discussion that delved deeply into some of the hot button issues that afflict this continent's megalopolis'.

And the night was only just getting started...

Access Hollywood...

Posted on September 28, 2007 in Film | 0 Comments

Ar07_0218_2Today was a amazing day for the Filmmakers, Photographers and Staff of the All Roads Film Festival. Operating on little-to no-sleep, we were corraled by All Roads Staff at the top of the morning for a day of access: exclusive executive insight and Hollywood lore. First stop for the photographers was LA's College of Art & Design. The filmmakers, on the other hand were whisked away to National Geographic Feature Film & Entertainment offices for an audience with president, Adam Leipzig and executives Katie Evans and Susan O'Leary. Ar07_026
The collaboration was beneficial for both sides as the filmmakers learned first hand about the business of film from the NGS perspecitive, while the executives were able to forge new relationships with some of the globe's rising stars.

Next stop for the filmmakers was Fox Studios where they were given exclusive access to Ed Wilson, President of Fox Broadcasting Networks, as well as executives Veronica Lemcoff and Rick Ramirez.

Ar07_015In what has become a nice tradition for the launch of the All Roads Film Festival, this year's class of filmmakers and photographers gathered together with All Roads staff for an intimate Welcome Event in the secluded Hollywood Hills. Fresh off the plane from diverse locales such as Finland, India, Mongolia, Kashmir, Israel, Nigeria, New Zealand, and all over the U.S., new life-long relationships were sparked into reality as the 2007 All Roads Film Festival is now underway...Ar07_016

Img_1740Img_1745_2While this scene is not the premiere of the All Roads Film Festival, it is yet another typical happening in Hollywood, site of the 2007 All Roads Launch. Just a stones throw from the legendary Kodak theater, the Egyptian Theater on Hollywood Blvd. will serve as the host for the 4th Annual Event. Filmmakers and photographers from across the globe are set to arrive throughout the next 24 hours to share their art and gift with all of us.

Check out this interview with All Roads Film Project Director, Francene Blythe and National Geographic Lectures & Public Programs VP, Greg McGruder as it was broadcast live Friday, September 23rd on LA's 89.3 KPCC.

Enduring Voices is a new National Geographic Society initiative that is both preserving and raising mainstream awareness to the tragic disappearance of our planet's precious languages. With so much focus on our depleting natural resources, it is easy to overlook severity of our endangered languages. Check out this story in the New York Times for the latest...
The All Roads Film Project supports these voices through film, music and photography through seed grants and a platform from which these voices can be shared with new audiences.

The spirit and policies of socialism are sweeping across South America. Cuba's President, Fidel Castro has been at the forefront of this movement since assuming power in 1959. With the recent reforms instituted by Hugo Chavez, President of Venezuela, the movement is again gaining momentum at the regional level. Now, with the 2006 election of Evo Morales, Bolivia's first indigenous President, the continent serves host to a trilateral bloc that seeks to challenge the mores of capitalism and America's hegemony over the western hemisphere.

Check out this recent article about Bolivia's new pragmatic leader. Indeed America is taking notice.

Evo_morales Be sure to catch Cocalero (Alejandro Landes) at the 2007 All Roads Film Festival for a glimpse into the presidential campaign of Evo Morales as he takes to the trail in the pursuit of his historical election.
